Tenebris

Description

Tenebris is the dark entry in Ibstock’s Albus-Niveus-Tenebris continental sandcreased trio, produced at the Leicester (Ellistown) kiln. The face is a dark grey/near-black sandcreased soft-mud brick — closer in character to a Belgian or Danish dark brick than to a UK engineering product.

That gives it a softer, more tactile read on the wall than a smooth engineering black, which is why it’s become popular on contemporary residential and boutique commercial where the architect wants dark tone with hand-formed texture. Specified alongside Albus and Niveus it gives a full pale-to-dark sandcreased palette from one Ibstock kiln.
